“The Tale of Two Sisters”

tells a story of a young MK-operative and anti-apartheid activist Nokuthula Simelane and her sister, Thembi Nkadimeng. Nokuthula Simelane was 23-year old when she was kidnapped, brutally tortured, forcibly disappeared and murdered by the members of the notorious Security Branch of the South African Police in 1983. Her body was never discovered. Despite the continued hurdles, Thembi Nkadimeng, the sister of the late Nokuthula Simelane has been tireless in seeking justice for her sister.

Ashley Marais and André Trantraal have illustrated the cartoon. André Trantraal has been also responsible for the text.

The cartoon was developed as part of the project led by Professor Helen Scanlon from the Politics Department of the University of Cape Town, and thanks to the funding from the Education Justice and Memory Network (EdJAM).
